All users on Handiss have access to the search tool that allows them to filter through the Handiss professional database based on industry-specific criteria. The search tool allows a user to find other users who fit his/her criteria for a job, and visit their profiles. If your profile is found to be a good fit, the user can request a quote from you directly through the Handiss website, and you can respond with any questions you may have or directly respond with your quote.
What kind of users, clients, or companies are hiring on Handiss?
For the most part, they are small to medium size companies in the architecture and engineering market, and many are freelancers looking to team up with others on a project. They are often registered on Handiss with a Professional account as well.
What is the difference between a Hiring and Professional Account?
A Hiring Account is an account that allows the user to create RFQs, contact, and hire professionals in the Handiss network.
A Professional Account is an account that provides all the features of the Hiring Account PLUS a professional profile that is registered and visible in the Handiss network.
Why is my profile not approved?
Firms and freelancers browse the Handiss professional network for the purpose of finding and hiring others who are suitable for their projects. Therefore, our team evaluates profiles to make sure a minimum standard is attained so that the profiles they browse are filled out well. Criteria include profile completeness, clarity, presentation, writing quality, and data verification. So, all we ask is that you fill out your profile info completely and carefully, and your profile would probably get approved. If your profile is not approved and you believe we’ve made a mistake evaluating your profile, please send an email to email@example.com.
Why are there no jobs posted?
Handiss is not a job board or job listing website. Handiss is a networking platform made specifically for architecture and engineering professionals to find and work with others on projects. Users can create RFQs (Request For Quotation) and invite other users to submit quotes.
The RFQs are not posted on the website for everyone to see, and only professionals who are invited to submit a quote can view the RFQs.
The Handiss Jobs page may contain jobs that are posted by Handiss account managers only in case our team is looking to receive quotations for certain jobs we're assisting clients with. Otherwise, there would be no jobs posted in that page.
What kind of work can I be contacted for on Handiss?
You can be contacted for a wide range of design and consulting jobs in architecture and engineering, most of which can be done remotely. Architects, civil engineers, MEP engineers, estimators, draftspersons, technologists, architectural visualization experts, traffic engineers, and many more kinds of professionals have found work on Handiss.
Are the jobs remote or is proximity needed?
Most jobs are remote, but there have been cases when companies hired professionals from their town or city and asked to meet them. That being said, you can set the terms of the work you take on whether you prefer remote work or in-person contact, as long as both parties involved are ok with it.
Can I submit a quotation to a client through Handiss?
Yes. Handiss has a built-in system for quotations to be sent through.
How do I get paid for my services?
Handiss operates an escrow payment model. Any payment directed to you is to be paid upfront by your employer/client and held by Handiss until you deliver the work to the client. Once the client receives the work, he/she can release the funds to you. Payments are phased according to the quote that is prepared.
Does Handiss charge me any fees if I get hired?
Yes, Handiss charges a fee of 12% of your total quoted price for your services to cover transactional and service fees.
If I have a registered business, can I create a Professional Account?
Absolutely. Handiss is made for firms and freelancers. The profiles are personal though, and not firm profiles, so you can create your profile as a firm owner or manager.
Does my Professional Account let me hire other professionals if I need?
Yes, it does. You can use your Professional Account to do everything a Hiring Account does. You can create and RFQ (Request For Quotation), request quotes from other freelancers and firms, review quotes, hire, and pay through Handiss.
I only plan on hiring others. Can I create an account that is only for hiring?
Yes. You can create a Hiring Account if you only plan on hiring.
What types of engineering and architecture professionals and firms can I find in the Handiss network?
You’ll find professionals and small firms across the architecture and engineering spectrum. They are too numerous to list here, but you can filter through the network for yourself to browse the network by category, location, skill, license, etc…
Can I find licensed engineering and architecture professionals?
Yes, you can, in the US and Canada only. You can directly search the database using filters for licenses.
When I hire someone on Handiss, do they have professional liability insurance?
We don’t check whether the freelancers or firms have insurance. You’ll have to ask them or specify the insurance requirement in your RFQ (Request For Quotation).
Does it cost anything to access the Handiss database of professionals?
It is free to create a Professional or Hiring account, and both give you access to the database search on Handiss.
Can I contact professionals directly?
The process on Handiss is simple. Create an RFQ (Request For Quotation), and ask whomever you want to submit a quotation. Those who are interested in your project will respond and submit a quote through Handiss.
Where are the professionals located?
The network includes professionals from all over the world, with a primary concentration in the US and Canada.
Are there any upfront fees for hiring an expert through Handiss?
If you are using our Free plans, which are the standard Professional and Basic Hiring Accounts, there are no upfront fees. We only charge a service fee of 12% which is included in any quotes you receive from a professional on Handiss, and those are not upfront fees because you only pay after you hire.
If you are using our Plus Plan, we charge a monthly fee to provide you with dedicated assistance from an account manager to facilitate your hiring.
If you require assistance for a single hire, you can talk with an account manager directly and he/she will explain our Pay Per Hire process and fee structure.
How are payments processed?
Handiss provides escrow protection to protect both parties in a transaction. Handiss charges the hiring party at the start of each milestone (or full amount if there is only one milestone), and the funds are deposited in escrow.
When each milestone is completed, the hiring party has full control to approve the work and release the funds to the professional.
Does Handiss provide dispute resolution?
In case there is a problem during a project (the hiring party is not releasing the funds despite work completion, or the hired party not completing the work), then Handiss provides a dispute resolution process on condition that the funds are in escrow. If funds were not initially paid for any reason, then Handiss would be unable to help. That is why we encourage placing funds in escrow immediately after hiring.
Can I hide my profile from being listed?
If you want to hide your profile for any reason, you can do so from your account settings. Hiding your profile means that you won’t be listed, and nobody can find you and contact you for opportunities.
If your profile is featured on the homepage or any other page, you must contact us to remove it.
